Did you know that Less Than 2% of the 75,000 Contractors in Virginia are Lead-Safe Certified as required by the EPA? Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and around our homes and now has a dangerous effect on our health, which is why you need a lead-safe certified contractor. One of the most common sources of lead poisoning is deteriorating lead-based paint. Learning disabilities, hearing loss, and violent behavior are some of the effects lead paint can have on young children. If your home was built before 1978, lead paint on your walls, doors, windows and sills may be dangerous.

Criner Remodeling falls in the diminutive 2% of contractors in Virginia that is lead-safe certified and truly cares about its customers’ families and their health and safety. Criner Remodeling became a lead-safe certified remodeling company in March 2010 to serve its customers safely with responsibility.

On April 22, 2010, federal law implemented the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP Rule) which required that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet in homes built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) released a memorandum two months later, in June, stating that the full implementation of the RRP Rule will be postponed to the end of the year. This decision was made due to the fact that concerns had been raised by the regulated community regarding difficulties experienced in obtaining the rule required firm certification and renovation worker training. The EPA will offer additional and sufficient time for firms and workers to obtain the necessary training and certifications to comply but continue to enforce the work practice requirements in the rule which protect children and reduce lead poisoning. Make sure you hire a lead-safe certified contractor with Criner Remodeling today!
