According to CNBC, today’s low-supply, high-demand housing market is having a surprising side effect: renovations are on the rise. As fewer and fewer owners are listing their homes (thanks to sky-high prices and tight inventory), many are turning to renovations instead, choosing to update their existing homes and stay put for longer. Metrostudy’s Activity Index shows home remodeling is at an all-time high, up 4.5 percent over the year.
NAR Ranks Joy-Filled Remodeling Projects
The National Association of Realtors recently released a list of the top home remodeling projects, ranking them not by ROI or cost, but by how much joy they bring homeowners. Top projects included kitchen renovations, new wood flooring, new roofing, and vinyl windows and siding.
Windows and Doors See Increased Demand
Demand for doors and windows is on the rise, and according to a new study, it’s going to jump another 4.8 percent in the next four years. By 2021, Freedonia Group projects window and door demand to hit $34.3 billion. Demand for metal windows and doors will see particular growth, they say.
